How To Win Your Battles With Words Not Weapons

How To Win Your Battles With Words Not Weapons

We all fight battles.  Our minds tell us “weapons.”  Our spirit tells us “words.”  Words can change any personal battle into a victory.  Weapons usually make your battles worse.

Everybody knows about David’s epic battle with Goliath.  Did you know that he fought two other giants before Goliath?  Did you know that his tiny weapon (a sling), was only the last element in a war of words?

Words change your destiny.  Look at David’s “three giants” and how he used words to overcome them:

  1. The giant of “YOU’RE NOT WORTHY.”

David’s brother, Eliab, was this giant.  He used words to attack David’s motives and heart.  “I know your presumption and the EVIL OF YOUR HEART, for you have come down to see the battle.”  (1 Sam. 17: 28)

You are unworthy” is a voice Satan uses constantly with us.  He tells us that we are unworthy to fulfill our destiny.  He tells us our past failures limit our ability to accomplish our future.

Say this out loud:  Christ has made me worthy.  He forgave me on the cross.  He has qualified me.  I defeat the false words about my unworthiness and rise up into my destiny.”

  2. The giant of “YOU’RE NOT ABLE.”

The next giant that stepped out was King Saul.  He heard about David’s “words of faith” and immediately reminded him that “You are NOT ABLE to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are but a youth” (1 Sam. 17: 33).

Satan loves to keep you “on the bench.”  He tells you that you are not trained, not educated, not talented, not wealthy, not well-known.

David defeated Saul’s negativism with WORDS:  “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear WILL DELIVER ME from the hand of this Philistine” (v. 37).

Say these words:  Christ is my ability.  I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens me.  He has helped me in the past and will perform His will in my future!”

  3. The giant of “YOU’RE NOT BLESSED.”

The last giant David faced was Goliath himself:  “And the Philistine said to David, ‘Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?’ And the Philistine CURSED DAVID by his gods” (v. 43).

Profanity is Satan cursing you. Satan loves to convince you that you are “cursed.”  He says, “You are a sorry ________ ________.  You are nothing.  You are the bottom.  You are under a curse.  You are destined to failure.”

David’s reply?  This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I WILL strike you down and cut off your head.”  WORDS!

Words won the battle.  The famous rock that brought Goliath down was actually directed by David’s words.

Use God’s Word to fight your battles.  Put away your sword and your spear.

Find five verses (“five smooth stones”) that fit our battle and speak them every day to your “giants.”

WIN YOUR BATTLE WITH WORDS, NOT WEAPONS.
